Services > Furniture Stylists Tips > Christmas Magic During office discussions about Christmas shopping in the last few weeks we have noticed a trend, everyone is looking to buy their loved ones one amazing present, rather then lots of smaller presents. Some families are even teaming up so that each person receives one gift, from the whole family, with the combined money meaning something spectacular that the receiver would not normally buy themselves, making it that bit more special (we like the added benefit of no wasting money on small gifts that often get forgotten about by Boxing Day!). "Tips for getting prepared for Christmas"

It is mid October already, and if you have the family coming for Christmas, it’s a good idea to have a think about anything you may need now. If you do need to buy furniture, there is sometimes a waiting period necessary, which means if you head to the shops now, you will be able to order and have it here in time for Christmas. If you leave it to the last minute, then you will be more limited in your choice and may end up choosing something second best.
We find we mostly sell dining tables (particularly extension tables), dining chairs, sofas and TV units in the lead up to Christmas. If you are thinking of upgrading, often having guests for Christmas gets you to take action! Beyond Furniture have all your furniture needs for Christmas this year. The stylists tips on this page discuss how to choose furniture that can do two jobs, how to style your Christmas table using inexpensive Christmas decorations and how to use furniture with gold tones to brighten up neutral furniture. The Dining Chair guide is recommended reading for anyone looking to buy new dining chairs this month.
TALKING POINT
"Creating Christmas Magic"
> What Steps did you take to decide on a theme and get everything ready for the shoot?
- First we looked at the table setting available to us, the Aster dining table and Lexi dining chairs feature tan, bronze and golden tones that lent itself perfectly to a gold themed Christmas setting, we built everything around this.
- Next we looked at what accessories we had available to us, we had beautiful crystal candle holders in a range of sizes, this would become the central table feature. We also had the beautiful tall tulip vase, and the fun gold leather petals (available in store only), that we could use as coasters and place settings.
- We then went shopping for the accessories, sticking to our gold theme, we bought 4 rolls of Christmas wrapping paper, in co-ordinating but complementary patterns and colours to create the table runners that run over the table. The gold candles were purchased, as well as inexpensive Christmas bauble sets in shades of gold, we used 2 sets, one larger to fill the tulip vase, and one smaller to decorate the table. Then all we needed were some Christmas bonbons, flowers (we used artificial flowers that we had available, fresh flowers would be beautiful and scented), and some ribbon in gold and white. The twigs through the centre were the stylists own; the same look could be re-created with sticks found in the garden spray painted gold or white.
- To create the look, we begun with folding the wrapping paper and laying it out. We then put the table settings together, 2 plates on top of each other, with plain white paper napkins, the gold petal and the cutlery all wrapped up with a bow, then finished with a small sprig of flowers and a baubles on each.
- We laid the sticks through the centre of the table and then placed the candle holders in the centre with the tall, gold candles; we also placed the small crystal candle holders with small gold candles interwoven through the sticks with some extra baubles and sprigs of flowers.
- We used the flowers around the base of the candle sticks to build up the centre piece, we finished off with the Christmas bon-bons, the baubles in the vase, and of course the bubbly!
- Lighting the candles and dimming the stunning Prima Signora floor lamp set the mood for a beautiful Christmas dinner.
> How would your recreate this look at home if you didn’t have the crystal wear?
- Anything could have been used as the centrepiece, even some wine glasses with a candle in them and some flowers around the base, the smaller candle holders could be replaced with some small teacups, whatever you have on hand really. The key is to create some height and drama, by building it up with the flowers, and extra tall candles, the beautiful crystal candle holders actually became secondary to the gold candles in our centre piece.
> What other tips do you have to make it more personal?
- You could have each family member select a beautiful Christmas tree decoration, stick to your colour theme, and choose from decorations that are a similar size, and use them on the place settings to mark who will be seated where.
- Alternatively you could write Christmas messages on beautiful gold cards and put it on the place settings, personalise the message for each guest.
> Any other tips about creating beautiful table settings?
- This concept can be used all year round for different events, having a children’s party? Buy colourful wrapping paper, fill a central bowl full of colourful lollies, and decorate the length of the table with balloons, colourful candles and bright toys. It makes birthdays dinners feel that much more special, when you decorate it or create a theme; it gives the meal a sense of occasion.
